Welcome to my Palm RPG tools page! These are applications I developed to assist roleplayers with Palm OS devices. I have tried hard to make quality software that answers needs that roleplayers have, using the strengths of palmtop computers.

Both programs below should run on any Palm device running Palm OS version 2.0 or higher. I have avoided fancy graphical techniques and newer OS features in favor of time-tested user interfaces.

Combat-Q

Dungeons and Dragons initiative tracker.

(sample screenshots above)

"I just have to say that Combat-Q is one of the best palm programs out there and THE BEST D&D one. It has made running my games ten times easier."
"noretoc", posting on EN World.

Combat-Q keeps track of when characters get to act during combat, as well as when their spells expire. This lets the Dungeon Master play the game and not shuffle through papers looking up initiative check results. Never hear the cry "Hey, I think you skipped my turn!" from a player again! Easily keep track of what spells are in play.

Version 1.3 Changes: Add features for keeping track of Player Characters and Summoned Creatures. Click for details.

Version 1.2 Changes: Combat-Q is now compatible with the new Dungeons and Dragons v.3.5 rules. But if you are still playing Third Edition D&D, you will have no problems using Combat-Q v1.2. Click for details.

New feature: allow editing character's or effect's name on the Current Combatant screen.

Version 1.1 Changes

What Combat-Q can do for you:

  • Quickly record initiative rolls made by players or Dungeon Master
  • Automatically calculate initiative check results from initiative rolls
  • Skip actions of unaware characters during surprise round
  • Handle Delay actions
  • Handle Ready actions
  • Handle Refocus actions
  • Remind when characters get partial actions because of surprise or readying
  • Easily handle mass carnage by removing characters from combat
  • Track combat round number, including surprise round when needed
  • Quickly create customized spells or other effects, like Barbarian Rage
  • Offer unique default names to minimize text entry
  • Quickly make up to 20 duplicates of any character/spell
  • Display overview screen for arbitrary editing of initiative check results
  • Back up data to desktop computer on HotSync
  • Follow standard Palm OS interface guidelines for easy learning curve
  • Offer lots of built-in help screens

Grasshopper

3E Dungeons and Dragons jump calculator.

(sample screenshots above)

Want to know how far your Dungeons and Dragons 3E character can jump? Did your character just get a Ring of Jumping and you want to know what you can do with it? Is that halfling Bar8 Mnk8 giving you a headache? Grasshopper can help! Quickly and easily enter all characteristics related to jumping, and the distance you can jump appears instantly.

Grasshopper correctly handles tricky modifiers such as height and the Run feat. You can enter any movement speed, skill value, or type of jump. A "shortcut" button lets you quickly add 30 (or whatever you want) to skill --- very useful for when that Jump spell kicks in.

Grasshopper uses the Dungeons and Dragons Third Edition (3E) rules for the Jump skill. It is not compatible with the Dungeons and Dragons v.3.5 Jump skill.

Both applications above include C or C++ source code for parts of the program released under Wizards of the Coast's Open Gaming License. In brief, the OGL lets me develop gaming content using open gaming content that others have published, as long as what I publish using their content is open gaming content too. For these programs, I have implemented open gaming content from the System Reference Document using C/C++ code.
